The OATH and COVENANT of a Public Speaker
I swear by Socrates, Demosthenes and Cicero the great Orators of Antiquity, making them my witness that I will according to my ability, judgement and skill honour this OATH and COVENANT.
- THAT I will always hold in highest regard the craft and discipline of Public Speaking, being ever mindful of its capacity to destroy or preserve life.
- THAT I will use my God given ability to speak in a way that will uplift humanity and that I will never encourage behaviour that will debase.
- THAT I will treat with dignity and honour all who listen to me, whatever their station may be, knowing we are all sparks of Divinity.
- THAT I will speak with the pure tongue of Angels that my speeches will contain no profanity nor will I offend the Gods with blasphemy.
- THAT I will always respect the intelligence, feelings and integrity of my audience. I will not indulge in sophistry, ambiguity, deception, subterfuge or any other untruth.
- THAT I will not be a thespian, only to deliver memorized lines. I will to the best of my ability make my speeches congruent with what I think, feel, say and do.
- THAT I will not speak with ulterior motives but my motives will be as transparent as the waters in the fountain of Kanathos.
- THAT I will expand energy to research and meditate upon my subject so that I will be prepared and well informed.
- THAT I will base my appeals on reason and sound logic and will not by omission or commission withhold any essential information to prevent my listeners from making informed decisions.
- THAT I will accept my role as an Adept, to teach this noble craft to the Neophyte. This will be my Magnum Opus.
If I carry out this OATH and COVENANT in this life I will call down the blessings upon my head and sit with the Gods in the hereafter but should I abandon my role, the consequences are too terrible to write.
