I have heard Dennis Curyer speak on many occasions and never fail to consider it a remarkable experience. I have also invited him to speak to various groups, and that has always been a resounding success.
However, in recent months I took the challenge to a new level. Given his longstanding interest in Israel and the region, I asked Dennis to arrange an educational and filming excursion to the Middle East, particularly Israel. We entered Lebanon and then travelled on to Jordan and Israel at a time when the war in Iraq was just winding down. Despite the difficulties of the Middle East my companions and I felt safe and learned much during the four week tour. At various points on this excursion I put Dennis in front of camera and microphone while he spoke extemporaneously about the history, geography and politics of these locations, as though he had a prepared script. That was all very well done. He was always a fount of knowledge at every location, and was patient with my ignorance.
In the few months since our return, as I have researched the people and the issues of these countries further, I have appreciated even more the solid foundation Dennis laid for my understanding.
The point then is that I have not yet found a speaking situation in which Dennis was not equal to the task. Your experience, I am satisfied, will be likewise.
